Destination: The Amalfi Coast
When I started imagining what I wanted this book club to feel like, I pictured a journey—a blend of story and setting that transports us. I wanted books that make you want to pack a bag or at least open your map app. Even when the destination isn’t personally calling your name, it should still expand your world.
For our very first Book Trip Book Club season, I wanted a destination that feels like a dream. And what’s dreamier than Italy?
As luck would have it, several new releases were set not just in Italy, but along the dazzling cliffs of the Amalfi Coast-a place that practically drips with beauty, mystery, and a touch of cinematic magic.
🌊 Saltwater by Katy Hays
The first of our two summer picks, Saltwater is a haunting, slow-burn novel that takes us to Capri-an island that’s equal parts breathtaking and isolating. The story dives deep into grief, legacy, and unraveling identity, all against a backdrop of salt air, sun-drenched stone, and privilege you can almost taste.
This one’s for readers who like their summer fiction with mood, tension, and just enough bite.
If you’ve ever:
- Wanted a book that feels like a moody vacation
- Felt the tension between privilege and purpose
- Wondered how a place could quietly undo a person...
…then Saltwater is worth the trip.
📚 Summer Season – Two Stories, One Coast
Saltwater is Part 1 of our two-book summer series set along the Amalfi Coast. We’ll be diving into Part 2—The Amalfi Curse by Sarah Penner—this August, which brings a very different energy to this sun-soaked region (think secrets, superstition, and curses that don’t stay buried).
This season is closed to new members, but if you love books with a strong sense of place and crave connection with fellow literary travelers, stay close. We’ll be revealing our Fall 2025 destination and book pairings in mid-July-and it’s going to be atmospheric, unexpected, and just a little cozy.
Pack a metaphorical bag, pour a lemon spritz, and get lost in a summer story that stays with you long after the last page.
Because here at Book Trip Book Club, the stories always take you places.
