Book Trip to Ireland: Stories That Bring the Emerald Isle to Life
And in the Fall we are headed to... Ireland

This season, our Book Trip Book Club is heading to Ireland, through the pages of two unforgettable novels set against its sweeping backdrop. Along the way, we’ll explore a bit of Irish history, culture, and charm that will bring each story to life.

Known for its lush landscapes, dramatic coastlines, and friendly locals, Ireland is often called the Emerald Isle. But beyond the scenery, it’s a country steeped in myth, music, and literature. Think of ancient Celtic legends, cozy village pubs, and a literary legacy that gave us authors like James Joyce, Maeve Binchy, and Seamus Heaney.

From the bustling streets of Dublin to the quiet beauty of the countryside, Ireland mixes old world charm with a deep sense of place. It’s a country that invites you to slow down, look around, and listen to the stories it’s been waiting to tell.

Our Two Books:

The Story Collector by Evie Woods
Set in a crumbling house on the Irish coast, The Story Collector is part fairytale, part family mystery, and entirely captivating. The story weaves between present-day Ireland and its rich past, following a woman who discovers her connection to the stories whispered through generations.

It’s a book that explores how stories shape who we are and how history, both personal and collective, never really lets us go. The Irish setting adds that touch of magic only this landscape can offer-wild cliffs, hidden libraries, and the kind of legends that feel just believable enough to be true.

The Last Resort by Jan Carson
Set in a luxury resort on the northern coast of Ireland, The Last Resort brings a sharp, unsettling edge to the idea of escape. This isn’t a relaxing beach read. It’s a collection of interwoven stories about guests whose secrets and pasts catch up with them in unexpected ways.
Jan Carson’s writing captures the eerie beauty of Northern Ireland while exploring themes of identity, consequence, and the things we carry with us. The backdrop of the coast, with its rugged cliffs and unpredictable seas, mirrors the tension in the stories-and in us as readers.

Why Ireland for This Season?
Both books take very different approaches to Irish life and landscape, but they share a common thread-the way place shapes story. Whether it’s the folklore of the west coast or the sharp realism of the northern shore, Ireland sets the perfect stage for stories of discovery, mystery, and transformation.
