In just a few days, I’ll turn 60.
I say that with awe, not dread. Because the truth is-there was a time when I wasn’t sure I’d get here. Not just to this age, but to this place in my life: grounded, grateful, wildly curious about what comes next.
Aging, to me, isn’t something to hide. It’s something to honor. It’s the soft proof of everything I’ve lived through, every story I carry, every quiet moment that shaped the woman I am now.
The Life That Almost Wasn’t
When you’ve faced moments that made you wonder whether you’d get another year-much less sixty of them-you stop pretending time is something to take for granted.
I don’t. I won’t.
I see this milestone as sacred. A chance to pause. To breathe deeply. To thank the version of me who kept going, even when it was hard.
And to be honest? This moment feels more like a beginning than an end.
A Community That Showed Up
In the days leading up to this birthday, I did something a little vulnerable: I asked people how I might honor this milestone. What might I do to mark the moment?
The answers poured in. Brave acts of joy. Solo adventures. Letters to my younger self. Ideas that stretched from playful to profound. Every suggestion was a gift, and it reminded me how lucky I am to be surrounded by a community that doesn’t just celebrate the calendar-they celebrate the soul.
One suggestion in particular stuck with me: try 60 new experiences this year.
Challenge accepted.
Although let’s be honest-that might not even be difficult. Life has a way of surprising you when you say yes to it.
But my deepest intention? To journal every single day for the next year.
Not curated or polished. Just honest. What I’m thinking. What I’m wondering. What I’m building. What I’m feeling-personally, professionally, spiritually. I want a year of my life on paper. Not just for me, but maybe for the version of me who turns 70 one day and wants to remember how it all felt.
Starting a Business at Sixty
Not everyone decides to become an entrepreneur at this stage in life. But I did.
I started a travel business from scratch, fueled by heart and a hunger for purpose. I wanted to create something that let me explore the world, help others do the same, and carve out a life with more freedom and flexibility. I wanted to work with meaning, not just momentum.
And now, my husband is retiring and stepping into this venture alongside me. We’re turning the page together, chasing sunrises in new cities and building a life that allows us to be both wildly adventurous and deeply rooted in family.
What Comes Next
There are trips to plan. Books to read. Grandbabies to spoil. Places to explore. There are quiet mornings with coffee and loud laughter around dinner tables. And always-there’s more becoming to do.
So, here’s to sixty.
To sacred years, soft landings, and brave beginnings.
To stories still unfolding.
To asking questions, trying new things, and writing it all down.
This chapter? It’s just getting good.
